Ruimei Bakery (如美餅鋪)

Ruimei Bakery, a cherished establishment now under the stewardship of its second generation, stands as a testament to time, boasting a legacy spanning over six decades. Founded in 1954 by Zhuang Yisheng's father, the bakery roots itself in the esteemed teachings of Hsinchu's traditional pastry maestro, "Jin Ruizhen." Zhuang's father, having imbibed the intricate artistry of pastry-making from this revered master, established Ruimei Bakery at its present location. Zhuang Yisheng, carrying forth the familial torch, joined the bakery following his military service. As the popularity of Western- style pastries and bread surged, he sought to augment his expertise by enrolling in the esteemed Pali Baking School. Armed with newfound knowledge and an unwavering dedication to his craft, Zhuang Yisheng continued the illustrious legacy of Ruimei Bakery, ensuring its enduring presence amidst evolving culinary trends.

Situated on Chang'an Street, running parallel to Beimen Street, Jicao Tang holds a significant place in the historical fabric of this locale. Once known as "Houche Road," this street served as a pivotal diversion route for Beimen Street. Established in 1931, Jicao Tang is currently in its third generation, with each era bringing unique transformations to this venerable establishment. Through the lens of the Jicao Tang family, the evolution of Chang'an Street unfolds. From the initial generation's pursuits of herb collection to the second generation's foray into selling herbal tea, the family has borne witness to the dynamic changes along this bustling thoroughfare. In its heyday, Chang'an Street boasted a myriad of herbal shops and cinemas, eventually transitioning into a hub for children's clothing stores.

However, the passage of time has seen a decline in foot traffic, and the street has relinquished some of its former splendor. Today, Chang'an Street stands as a nostalgic testament to the ebb and flow of commerce and culture, where Jicao Tang remains a steadfast guardian of the area's rich history.
